50 years ago, if you live in a remote fishing village and announce to your family members that you want to be a successful actor, you’d be laughed at.

What are you thinking? It’s nearly impossible.

Today is different. If you want to be an actor, you don’t even need to tell your family members for support. You don’t need to ask for permission.

Assuming you have a little knowledge of the craft, the passion, enough acting skills, and access to the Internet, all you need to do is email or DM or PM those indie filmmakers and try for an audition.

If they say yes, then go give it a try.

Your chances of getting a gig are even higher if the filmmaker is just like you — starting their career. When a passionate newbie meets an equally passionate newbie, magic will happen.

The same goes when forming a band, a dance group, a startup, or a website project.

The Internet allows like-minded individuals to connect and maybe do something meaningful. That’s one advantage.

Notice the huge, huge difference. No wonder most parents — specifically those born before the 80s — are pessimistic about their children’s chosen creative careers (not all of them, of course).

They never realize the difference between their time and today’s time.

Today, it doesn’t matter whether you’re born poor or rich. If you have a functioning mind and body, and technology is here, there’s no excuse you can’t pursue your dreams.
