Don’t overthink whether what you did is right or wrong.
Because whatever you say. Whatever you teach.
Whatever you perform. Whatever you do.
There’s always a better version of it.
Forget right vs wrong.
It’s all about doing better the next time. It’s all about moving on and focusing on the next step.
To help you how: (1) right feedback; (2) reality
1 – Right feedback should come from the right person:
If it’s a job, then your boss or manager. If school, obviously your teacher. Sometimes a friend who really knows who you are and what you’re doing will do. This kind of feedback pinpoints the specific area you need to improve. It’s honest and most of the time painful to hear. Apply the feedback next time. Repeat.
(Note: Sometimes it’s tricky to get the right feedback though. That’s why you need #2.)
2 – Reality (seeing the reality for what it is):
If you didn’t get your desired result and you haven’t heard any feedback, it’s likely you didn’t meet the expectations of the people who need it. It’s as simple as that. You’re not a failure. It’s just your approach didn’t work. Try again. Iterate and iterate until it works.
If you can have both the “feedback” and “your observation in reality”, that’s the ideal.
If you can’t find the right feedback though, just try your best to “see the reality for what it is”.
Because that’s something you can always do.
It never fails.
