The things that matter to you are the things you can’t compromise.
It’s probably different from others. Because people value different things.
And that’s a good thing. That means you don’t have to value what others value.
You are free to decide which ones are yours.
What’s important is you know them — and you focus on them every day (if you have to).
You can tell whether or not you’re doing the thing that matters to you. It’s simple.
If you’re not doing it, you feel something’s not right. You are unfulfilled.
On the other hand, if you’re doing it, you’re excited to get up.
You’re more energetic. You don’t give up easily. You love the challenges!
But remember, the things that matter to you may change over time.
So don’t forget to update your “what matters to me” list once in a while. Question it. Be honest to yourself.
Nothing’s worse than doing things you think matter to you, but not anymore. Oops.
Of course you don’t have to spend all your waking hours doing the things that matter (well, maybe in a perfect world).
In reality, you have other responsibilities. A lot is going on… You have to do this or that… because and because. And on and on. Such is life.
The point is to be fully aware of the things that matter to you and those that don’t matter.
That way, you know where to spend your resources. You know what to prioritize.
And if you can design your life where you don’t have to spend time on the things that don’t matter, that is a good life. You made it.
