On May 6th, 1954, Roger Bannister became a household name.
He ran a mile in 3 minutes and 59.4 seconds!
But why is it such a big deal?
Because at that time, everyone believed that running under a 4-minute mile was impossible.
Experts claimed that the human body wasn’t built for that due to some biological and physical barriers.
But Roger proved them all wrong. In his own belief system, it was possible.
Now you might say that Roger was just lucky.
You’re probably right. But we should also consider those runners who broke the 4-minute mile as well. In that same year!
Because of Roger, what everyone thought was impossible became possible.
What happened there? What changed?
Did these people overdose themselves with some energy pills? Or maybe some superhuman supplements?
Or something new in their training? New methods for gaining speed?
Maybe. One thing to note was that Roger adopted an unorthodox training method. He relied on his two friends to run alongside him and keep him on pace.
But again, there’s nothing ridiculous external amplification — like some high-technology equipment.
And you might not believe that he only did minimal training. Because he was also practicing as a junior doctor at that time.
Crazy right?
For Roger and for those who followed him, it was plain simple. And it was all internal.
It was their belief.
A belief that they can do it.
